Top 10 SEO Tips for a Better Google Ranking

Top 10 SEO Tips for a Better Google Ranking

Even though there are numerous search engines available on the internet we all know that Google is the one that counts when it comes to rankings. This means that if you want your website to be successful you need to aim your SEO campaign at Google, but how exactly can you do this if you struggle to understand the complexities of the subject?

1. Create Content That Isn’t Time Sensitive

Putting good quality content on your website that won’t go out-of-date in a few weeks or months is an easy way to boost search engine optimization. By making the content you use useful now and in the future you won’t need to remove it and replace it over and over again – you can simply add to it on a regular basis.

A website with very poor content or very little content is an SEO no-no if you want good search engine rankings so get your typing head on and create some content that people will be glad to read now and in 10 years’ time.

2. Think About Your Customer’s Needs

Put yourself in your customer’s shoes and think about the actual words they may type into the search box in order to find your website. Then check how popular these words are with an SEO keyword tool, such as the free one supplied by Google. One of the quickest and easiest ways to achieve good SEO is with good keyword selection. Then all you need to do is include your SEO keywords in your website content.

3. Do Some Guest Blogging

Google loves links so the more quality websites you can create guest blog posts for the better your SEO campaign will be. Make sure that the guest blogs all link back to your website and that they are relevant to the subject of your website. You should also make sure the content is top quality so that readers want to follow the link you provide.

4. Links, Links and more Links

As the above tip points out Google loves links – but only when the links are genuine and they link to and from other authoritative sites. You run the risk of blacklisting your website and ruining a good SEO campaign by either purchasing links or blogging on unrelated sites and linking back to your site. There are loads of other SEO techniques available so don’t go down this route.

5. Create an Informative Video

Informational videos with backlinks to your website are another great SEO tool. Businesses can make a short video explaining what they do, who they are etc. while vendors can demonstrate their products if appropriate. If you can, distribute your video over multiple platforms then watch as your Google rank increases.

6. Update Your Website on a Daily Basis

If you can add content to your website on a daily or bi-daily basis, Google and the other big search engines start to recognize your site as an authority in its niche. By changing your choice of SEO keywords on a regular basis as well you will begin to rank highly for a good selection of keywords and eventually the majority of keywords related to your site’s topic (or your business) will get your website noticed and ranked among the leading sites.

If you don’t have time to create new SEO oriented blogs on a daily basis, hire a blog writer to do it for you. On-going content creation is one of the easiest SEO techniques to master and one that will improve your Google rank over time.

7. Concentrate on Your Article Titles

A simple SEO tip that many people forget, revolves around the wording of their content or article titles. A lot of search engine spiders/bots initially read the first few lines of a webpage to determine the topic of the content. If you can include your top-ranking keywords in the title of whatever you’re writing, it will help your site’s SEO no end.

8. Avoid Flash-based Websites

Flash websites look lovely and stylish and expensive, but they don’t sit well with Google or your SEO efforts. It takes a number of sophisticated tricks to make Google notice Flash websites and so it makes more sense to use another platform, if you want to improve your rankings.

9. Use Article Submission Sites

Article submission sites are a great SEO tool as they distribute a single article written by you to hundreds of article directories with the aim of getting it published and noticed. The articles you submit can be published for free but any websites that choose to publish it have to include your bio and a link back to your website. Most article submission sites do charge for the service, but they can cut months off your SEO campaign.

10. Hire a Professional SEO Agency

The nine SEO tips mentioned above are quite simple to put into place but they take time, effort and patience. Not everyone has an abundance of these qualities so it may be worth hiring a professional SEO agency to do the work for you. Of course this will cost you money but if it gets your business website onto page 1 of Google within a few weeks it’s definitely a price worth paying.

Affordable Advertising on Craigslist

Affordable Advertising on Craigslist

The advertising on Craigslist is certainly affordable. In fact there is no fee for the majority of posts made on Craigslist. Craigslist began as a non-profit organization but in 1999 it was converted to a for-profit organization. However, operating costs are supported by charging nominal fees for help-wanted advertisements placed on the San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City Craigslist websites. Additionally, there is a fee for brokerage apartment listings in New York City.

The vast majority of those posting advertisements on any of the Craigslist over 300 websites are not paying a fee to do so. This definitely makes posting advertisements on Craigslist to be worthwhile from a financial standpoint. While the advertisements are free, care should be taken to post these advertisements judiciously because although there is financial loss, poor posting can result in a loss of time and resources if it leads to poor profit potential.

Why Craigslist is Free

Although the founder of Craigslist, Craig Newmark, was approached in 1997 about the possibility of running banner advertisements on Craigslist to generate a profit, he made the decision to keep Craigslist as a noncommercial website. Even after Craigslist was converted to a for profit organization commercialization did not infiltrate the website. The points listed in the Craigslist mission statement demonstrate why Craigslist has remained noncommercial:

• Giving each other a break, getting the word out about everyday, real-world stuff
• Restoring the human voice to the Internet, in a humane, non-commercial environment
• Keeping things simple, common-sense, down-to-earth, honest, very real
• Providing an alternative to impersonal, big-media sites
• Being inclusive, giving a voice to the disenfranchised, democratizing…
• Being a collection of communities with similar spirit, not a single monolithic entity

Advertising on Craigslist vs. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is another type of marketing which many business owners find to be both worthwhile and affordable. For many, the appeal of affiliate marketing is the affiliates are not compensated for their efforts unless the business owner sees some type of gain from the advertising. This gain may be in the form of website traffic in the case of pay-per-click marketing, in the form of sales in pay per sale marketing or in the form of potential leads when a website visitor performs a specific action such as registering with a website or signing up for an offer.

While affiliate marketing is very appealing, there are others who prefer advertising on Craigslist. The advantage Craigslist offers to advertisers is, of course, that the advertisers never pay for their business advertisements and the community receives a great deal of website traffic already so driving traffic to the website is not a concern.

Why Free Is Not Always Better

However, there are some specific instances where free advertising is not the best type of advertising available. Consider a product or service for which Craigslist does not have an appropriate category. In this case advertising on Craigslist may not be worthwhile because although the advertisement is free, it is also not likely to receive a great deal of attention from members of the target audience. In this case, advertising on Craigslist may be a waste of resources.

Another example of an instance when Craigslist may not be a great advertising option is when the market is already saturated with competitors’ advertisements. In this case it can be difficult to sway customer loyalty so it might be more worthwhile to pay for advertising in a less crowded market.

Boosting Business with Autoresponders

Boosting Business with Autoresponders

These days, most everyone is familiar with an autoresponder, although many do not know why they are beneficial to businesses. If you are not familiar with autoresponders, you would probably find yourself amazed with them. An autoresponder can help your business by automatically emailing your clients and customers with a preset message that will help to increase your sales.

An autoresponder can help your list of clients grow, even send each one of them their own personalized email message. If you choose, you can also follow up each individual email with repeated emails, varying the content whenever you wish. These programs will also allow you to keep track of conversations, and send out broadcast email messages whenever you have news or new products to offer your clients.

As research in the past has shown, personalized email from autoresponders is a great way to boost your business. When you send a personalized email to one of your clients, the autoresponder can address him or her by their name – which always makes a customer take notice. While you could do this yourself using traditional email, it could take you a few hours if you have a long list of customers.

Autoresponders make sending personalized email a snap. All you need to do is set up your email template, then select where you like the name to go. You can add everyone in your customer list to the autoresponder, which makes sending emails a snap. Once you have everything ready to go, all you need to do is send out the emails with one simple click. Best of all – you do not have to set it up again when you need to send out broadcast messages.

Although there are some people who will buy products after one or two emails, most people require about seven or eight emails before they will purchase anything. Autoresponders can really help you there, as they will do all of the emailing for you. You do not have to keep sending manual emails or anything like that. All you need to do is set up the email address, type in your preset message, and then feel free to send it as many times as you like.

Through the use of an autoresponder you can really boost your business. If you run an Internet marketing business, this tool will prove to be invaluable. You can spend less time sending messages – and more time doing what you enjoy. If you have never tried an autoresponder before, you owe it yourself to check out everything they will do for you and your business. Online businesses can get a lot of emails on a daily basis – which is where the autoresponder will really start to shine and show you just how great of an asset it really is.

The autoresponder system I use is called Veremail. It includes unlimited autoresponders, follow-up emails, email broadcasting, and live customer support. Sign up for free today.

6 Essential Social Media Marketing Tips

6 Essential Social Media Marketing Tips

When you go about marketing your online business through social media, there are a few basic guidelines you should aim to follow. These can be applied to forming connections in social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter, as well as in social bookmarking services like Digg, StumbleUpon or Reddit – although, perhaps to a slightly lesser extent.

Being a success through social media is all about leveraging connections, and giving in to the fact that no website is an island. If you are completely self-absorbed and only socialize with others for your own benefit, then you will have a hard time building a loyal following. These next few tips will help get you moving in the right direction, so you can grow your network much faster by using social media.

1. Get To Know The Culture: Before you get too trigger-happy and start sending friend requests or following people all over the place, get comfortable with how people interact in your chosen network. Find out what people respond to and get a sense of the language and etiquette people use when communicating with each other. Generally people will sense a spammer from a mile away, and most often its because spammers dont interact in the same way as normal people do (or most times, not at all). If you want to avoid looking like a spammer, then learn to follow this communication etiquette.

2. Dont Grow Your Network Too Fast: Another thing that could make you look rather bad is attempting to grow your friend or follower count too quickly. Having 10 followers when you follow about 500 will make people think twice about what youre on the site for, and they probably wont want to know you. If you grow your friend count at a more natural rate then it will look a lot better, and you will get many more people interested in connecting with you in the long run. Also, another key to being successful with social media is having a good quality following – not just quantity. Having 50 friends that you have taken the time to become closely acquainted with (and turn into loyal followers) is better than a few hundred that only serve to clog up your list.

3. Show Interest In Others: One way you can grow your network really quickly is to simply show that you are interested in what others are doing – not by sending out a stock email, but by reading a persons profile, visiting their website and sending them a personalized message to show that you care about their ambitions. This will get the majority of people you send requests to accepting them, or people you follow to follow you back – hence, avoiding too much of a hit-and-miss approach for growing your network.

4. Respond To Comments: If someone writes on your wall, or mentions you in a tweet, take the time to write back to them. This reassures people that there is an actual person sitting behind your account, and helps grow the trust that followers have in you. Obviously it can become a little difficult to keep up with everyone once your network gets really big, but in the initial stages you should try to do what you can to make each of your followers feel extra special.

5. Share Content From Other People: Re-tweeting or sharing content that other people post can do a lot to increase the trust and interest that your followers have in you. First, it indicates you are on the site to participate as a normal person would, and are not just there to send people to your own web links. Any relevant content you share adds value to those you share it with, and most of the time they will love you for it as much as if you had created the content yourself. Secondly, it hints to your followers that if any of them created a quality piece of content, then there is a chance that you might take the time to share that as well.

6. Learn From Others: If you are still unsure about what you should be doing to succeed in social media, then one of the best things you can do is take a look at those who are already successful to see how they do it. Visit the people in your niche who have loads of friends or followers and watch how they interact with their network. Get to know the various techniques they use and you are likely to find a way you can use them to grow your own following as well.

Google+ Reviewed

By Jacob S Strandlien (c) 2011 Social networking has grown steadily in scope and importance over the last decade, and over the past few years, Facebook's position as the top dog of social networking services has been solid and unquestioned. Enter Google+. Google's attempts to step into the realm of social networking have been plentiful and almost undeniable failures, but Google+ is undoubtedly their strongest showing yet, and has the best chance of success. It is growing steadily in popularity, but how well does it work and what sets it apart from its competitors? Read on.

Social Networking, Google Style

Google has a long, tumultuous, and mostly unknown and ignored history with social networking. The following is a rundown of their previous attempts.

Orkut: As far as I am aware, this is Google's earliest and (until now) most successful attempt at a social networking platform. It never gained much popularity in the United States, but it is huge in Brazil to this day, and it also has a following in India and other various countries.

Open Social: Launched in 2007, it's not technically a social network in and of itself. Open Social is Google and MySpace's attempt to create a common programming interface that can be applied across several social networks, allowing programmers to easily integrate these networks into websites and other applications. This has largely been drowned out by Facebook.

Friend Connect: Launched in 2008, Friend Connect was Google's next attempt at a Facebook or MySpace style social network, but it took the approach of using various open standards (including Open Social) to create this network across different types of accounts and websites. I had not even heard of it until I started researching for this article.

Google Lively: This was Google's attempt to create Second Life style 3D environments that could be installed onto any website, where users could log in with their personas and interact with each other. It only lasted for a few months before it was discontinued in 2008.

Google Wave: This was a communications format that was intended to combine features from e-mail, message boards, and social networking schemes to enable a conversation-style information exchange (or wave) that could include various type of media added by various networked contributors. Google has basically abandoned the project, but it still exists under the name Apache Wave.

Google Buzz: A social network that has been integrated into Google's e-mail service, Gmail, since 2010. It allows people to share information with one another in a social networking format right inside the Gmail interface. Ironically, Google Buzz has barely generated any buzz at all.

So what's to say this attempt will be any better? Read on.

Circles

Circles are the core concept of Google+, and the key feature that sets it apart from its competitors. Anybody you wish to communicate with goes into one or more of your "circles", or groups of people you know. You can have a circle of friends, a circle of co-workers, a circle of family members, etc, and nobody but you can see what circles you have or who is in them. Then when you write a status update, you also choose which circles to share it with. This makes privacy a breeze, a fact that sets Google+ firmly apart from Facebook, where privacy settings are terribly complex to manage and seem to change every few months. Even better, when you're setting up your personal information in Google+, there is a place in every field to specify with which circles that information is shared. For example, I have my phone number set up to only be visible by friends and family, but I have my profession set to be visible by all my circles. It's a snap. Then when you go to look at status updates that others have posted (which is in an interface similar to Facebook in basic appearance), you can filter the information by circles with just one click. It works extremely well, and you can color me impressed.

Hangouts

Another unique feature in Google+ is the concept of a hangout. A hangout is basically a video chat room, where you can invite friends and talk freely amongst each other. Webcams are becoming very widespread, and are even built into laptops and netbooks. It sounds great, but it is not without its setup. To even get started with hangouts, you are asked to download and install the "Google Voice and Video plugin", and then you have to find a friend who is on Google+ (and is in one of your circles) who is willing to do the same thing. However, once you're done with all that, the streaming video seems to work flawlessly so long as you have a good internet connection. Even through the limited resources of a netbook, I didn't run into any hiccups. Once again, I'm impressed.

Missing Features

With all of its clean look and smooth operation, there are some features that are conspicuously missing from Google+. Most notably as of the writing of this article, Google+ lacks any way to set up an account for a business or organization (called "Pages" on Facebook). In fact, Google is actively taking down standard user accounts that are set up for organizations. They claim that they are working on some sort of platform for business accounts, but demand is high, so they risk alienating new users if they take too long. Another conspicuously absent feature is a way of setting up an event, or any sort of calendar entry for that matter.

Conclusion

Google+ is definitely a top-quality effort by Google to break into the social networking field, but only time will tell whether it can topple Facebook from its position as top dog in the pack. For my money, though, it has a good chance. It doesn't have all the features yet, but with its clean interface, simple no-brainer privacy, and fun methods of interaction, I highly recommend checking it out.

Network Marketing Leads - Choices and Recommendations

Network Marketing Leads - Choices and Recommendations

Author: Andrea Kropp

The lifeblood of your business is a plentiful supply of quality network marketing leads. Has your sponsor ever told you "never stop adding people to your front line" or "always be closing". This is sound advice since you never know where or when a super star will emerge on your team. But, "always" is a long time and no one has a contact list long enough to go on forever (no matter what their background or financial resources). You, as well as every person on your downline team, will eventually need a source of fresh MLM leads.

Network Marketing Leads: The Sources

The sources for network marketing leads fall into two main categories - buy or build. These are the same choices you face multiple times every week. Do I buy a garden shed or build on myself? Do I bake a cake for the party or buy one from the store? Do I take my car in for an oil change, or learn how to do it myself? How you answer each question is all about tradeoffs. Time, cost, quality and level of customization are the major considerations. This is how we will structure our discussion of whether you should buy or generate your own MLM leads.

The Choices:

  • Buy Network Marketing Leads
  • Generate Your Own (or Team) Network Marketing Leads

The Considerations

  • Time
  • Cost
  • Quality

Buying versus Generating Network Marketing Leads

Time- Most people incorrectly assume that buying network marketing leads is always faster. That is true if you are talking about a list of 500 leads. But, what about the time to get the first lead? To get started, you only need 1 new lead since you can only call one person at a time anyway. You don't need the second lead until a little bit later, and you don't need the 500th lead until quite a bit later. Viewed in this way you begin to see how a continuous flow of MLM leads is actually preferable to a long list all at once. When you buy MLM leads you can sometimes request a paced flow of leads. When you generate your own, you are always in control of the pacing and can turn the lead generation on or off at any time.

Cost - Both approaches cost money. Don't let anyone fool you that generating your own network marketing leads is won't cost you anything. It will. However, many business owners choose to make a distinction between a cost and an investment. Going out to eat every day because you don't know how to cook is a cost. Taking cooking lessons for 3 months so you can reduce your reliance on restaurants is an investment. You spend money now to acquire a skill or knowledge that will allow you to spend less in the future. Network marketing leads are as vital to your business as food is to your body. If you plan to buy MLM leads, you are committing to an on-going necessary expense (over which you have no price control - think gasoline!). When you decide to generate your own MLM leads, you make an investment in your business that can never be taken away from you - and that you can teach your downline organization.

Quality- The clich phrase "you get what you pay for" is appropriate here. The quality of network marketing leads is generally reflected in the price. But, what criteria are used to judge quality in the first place? The relevant quality factors are recency, specificity, amount of data provided, verification, location and the most important factor - exclusivity.

Recency: This refers to how long ago the person expressed interested. Obviously 2 months ago is bad, a few days ago is OK and real-time, right now is the best.

Specificity: This refers to how closely matched the person's interest is to your offer. For example, some network marketing companies have 90% female distributors. A list of mostly male contacts would not be specific to this opportunity.

Amount of Data Provided: The most basic lead is an email address only. The amount of data available increases from there to include phone numbers, names, zip codes, annual income, etc...

Verification: This refers to whether the name, phone number and email provides are correct or not. When you generate your own network marketing leads a few junk leads aren't a big deal. If you are buying, advanced-verification that the information is correct is a feature you can pay for.

Location: You may prefer network marketing leads that are within driving distance so you can meet with prospects live or have them attend opportunity meetings. Or, your MLM company may only operate in certain countries or states.

Exclusivity: This refers to how many other business owners (in addition to you) have access to the same lead information. This factor is the most critical consideration and the reason that generating your own network marketing leads will always trump the quality of purchased leads. When you set up the system to generate the leads...they are 100% yours alone to call or email. When you buy network marketing leads, the same lead is often sold to 3,6 or even 12 other people who you must compete with for the prospect's attention. In many cases, once the prospect realizes their information has been sold they stop answering the phone or become very resistance and combative on the phone. Exclusivity is the only solution.

Where to Learn the Skill of Generating Network Marketing Leads

We believe in 100% in "teaching a man to fish so he can eat forever" so the only recommendations we have are for learning the art and skill of generating your own network marketing leads. We do not recommend that you buy network marketing leads - not even once. Your business can wait another few weeks or another month while you learn how to generate continuous lead flow. Sponsors and upline leaders who tell you cannot wait and make a calculated investment in your business are only interested in how your activity affects their bottom line. They are not giving you sound long-term advice, and you have to call them out on it. Once you acquire the skill of generating network marketing leads on your own, you'll be able to teach that skill to your team. And, you'll be able to use the fact that your team has its own lead system as a tactic to attract highly qualified prospects to your team.

Opportunity Costs Of A Sales Lead

Author: Craig Killick

With any online lead generation campaign, return on investment is becoming ever more demanded as a key performance indicator. And, with the advent of Cost Per Lead campaigns, companies now only need to pay for the sales leads they get rather than paying for complete campaigns.

But, how a sales lead is defined is still a contentious issue. And, when you are paying for every sales lead, is de-duping a cost saving or actually a missed opportunity?

Digital Marketing - Science or Creative?

Think of marketing people and you may well think of creatives. But, the old adage that "half of my marketing works, I'm just not sure which half" is no longer acceptable and the creatives have been joined by the number crunchers.

Digital marketing has introduced a level of measurement that is helping companies hone the way they generate sales leads and reach new customers. By adapting campaigns through constant testing, an audience can not only be reached, but increasingly engaged to take action - the next crucial step in the lead generation campaign.

But, the speed and cost savings that the Internet has introduced has also attracted a mass of ‘lead generation" techniques - some of which are passing themselves off as being a lot more sophisticated than they actually are, focusing on quantity rather than quality. This in turn has evolved the sales proposition for lead generation.

Cost Per Lead

The top players in the online lead generation industry have responded with a cost-per-lead model, where a company only pays for the sales leads they get, rather than by campaign.

This makes the campaign much more accountable as the customer gets more value for their money and the agency works harder to deliver quality sales leads.

Quality of sales leads is becoming ever important as companies look to keep the cost of acquisition down. So, with a higher unit price being paid for each sales lead from an agency, you can understand why customers will insist on questioning the validity and quality of a sales lead to ensure they are getting best value.

What Is A Sales Lead?

Depending on who you speak to, the answer to this question varies wildly. Sales tend to expect a fully qualified lead and marketing tend to expect someone who still needs to be nurtured through the sales lead generation process.

This expectation also varies from industry to industry and between companies with different sales and marketing processes. For example, in my experience, some companies class a sales lead as someone is is ready to buy the product, whereas for others, it's simply the name and telephone number of the relevant procurement manager.

Only Pay For What You Get

But, if a company can define what they class as a quality sales lead, they can demand just that from the lead generation company. They can also negotiate because they understand what they want to buy when they buy a sales lead.

But, this approach to keeping acquisition costs down highlights the issue of duplication of sales leads, which in turn asks the question.... are all sales leads equal?

De-Duping Data

If an online lead generation company supplies sales leads priced per piece of data, then a client tends to insist on de-duping data before they pay for the sales leads.

For instance, if a company runs multiple lead generation campaigns, and certain people have signed up to more than one, they tend not to want to pay twice for the same name.

But, is this an oversight? Are theses leads actually more valuable?

Not All Sales Leads Are Equal

If a person has shown multiple interest points in your service offering, doesn't it make more sense that the sales lead is worth more? After all, they must be more interested than someone who has shown less interest.

Rather than insisting on de-duping, a company could be paying a slight premium to understand which people are interested in potentially larger sales. After all, they must have already bought into the brand because they are saying yes on more than one occasion.

The Value Of Data

Data is the lifeblood of sales lead generation and quality usurps quantity every time as sales (in general) become more expensive to convert.

Rather than seeing data as a linear process, depth of interest and other segmentation rules could actually be saving the sales and marketing team an enormous amount of time and money and delivering more lucrative customers, for a slight increase in cost for the sales lead at source.

Summary

The more a marketing and sales team work together to define what a sales lead means to the business and, more importantly, set in place a system of defining value to data sets, the shorter the sales cycle becomes and the more the ROI increases.

Cost Per Lead continues to offer a manageable way of how to pay for sales leads, but flexibility is needed to remember that not all sales leads are equal.

Understanding your own sales process from beginning to end optimises the process and saves overall costs by delivering increased value.

Ask any marketer and they'll tell you... cost and value are two very different things.
